DATE NUT STREUSEL BARS 
1 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 c. quick oats
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. melted butter
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. nutmeats (cut fine) blender works best for nuts

Mix flour, salt, soda, brown sugar, oats and nuts together. Add melted butter. Mix well (with hands). Grease pan, pat half in bottom of pan, add filling and spread. Then add rest of strusel. Pat it down too. Bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Metal cake pan will work, best is 13 x 9 x 2 1/2. Cut into squares while still warm.

1 c. dates, cut fine
1 c. sugar
1 c. water
1 tsp. vanilla

Cook filling until thick. Cool, spread on strusel.
