1 c. granulated sugar
1 c. powdered sugar
1 c. butter
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
4 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar

Cream sugars and butter. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Drop small balls of dough on cookie sheet and flatten with a fork. Bake at 350 degrees for 8-10 minutes. Nuts, raisins or candied fruits can be added.
