1 c. dates, cut up
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1/2 c. butter
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 c. chocolate chips

Mix dates, boiling water, and soda; let cool. Cream butter and sugar together. Add eggs and vanilla. Add flour and soda. Add cooled date mixture and mix well. Pour into greased and floured 9 x 13 inch pan. Combine brown sugar, chopped nuts, and chocolate chips. Sprinkle over cake before baking. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes at 350 degrees.
