POLLY'S ROLLS
1 c. hot water
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tbsp. shortening
1 egg, well beaten
1 cake yeast
1/4 c. lukewarm water
4 c. all-purpose flour

Soften yeast with 1 teaspoon of the sugar in 1/4 cup lukewarm water. Combine hot water in large mixing bowl with the salt, balance of sugar, and shortening. When lukewarm, add the yeast mixture and the well beaten egg. Then add 2 cups of flour and blend well. Add the balance of the flour or as much as is needed to form a dough that will clear the sides of the mixing bowl. Blend well. Grease bowl; return dough. Cover and store in refrigerator at least 2 hours before using. When ready to use, shape into rolls and let rise 2 hours. Bake on greased baking sheet in 425 degree oven until golden brown, about 12 to 15 minutes.

This is an old recipe my mother gave Nana shortly after Mom and Dad married. Nana found it tucked away in some of her recipes and gave it to me. So, I thought I'd like to send it in because I'd really like for a recipe of my Mothers to be included in the cookbook.
