1 c. butter (Imperial)
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
2 c. flour

Mix well. Knead it together by hand into a long roll in waxed paper. Slice. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 13 minutes. May press cookies with a fork dipped in cinnamon sugar before baking or sprinkle with colored sugar.
