1 c. shortening
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. water
4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/8 tsp. cinnamon

Mix sugar, eggs, and shortening well. Stir in water and vanilla. Sift and stir in flour, salt, soda, and cinnamon. Place teaspoon of dough on greased cookie sheet. Place a teaspoon of filling on this, place another teaspoon of dough on top. Bake at 375 degrees.

FILLING:

2 c. dates, ground
3/4 c. water
3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Cook until thick; cool then add nut meats.
