CHERRY-OATMEAL COOKIES 
1/2 c. Crisco
1/2 c. butter
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 (8 oz.) jar maraschino cherries (chopped)
1/2 c. flaked coconut
2 c. quick rolled oats
1 (8 oz.) jar maraschino cherries (decoration)

Combine shortening, butter and sugars. Beat until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and vanilla. Sift together flour, baking powder, soda and salt. Gradually add cherries, coconut, oats and sifted dry ingredients to creamed mixture. Chill 1 hour.

Drop by tablespoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheet. Place a piece of maraschino cherry atop each cookie. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Remove cookies after 1 minute to rack and cool.
