1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. sifted flour
3/4 tsp. salt
1 c. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
1/4 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. chopped walnuts

Cream shortening, sugar, egg and vanilla until fluffy. Sift flour, baking soda and salt. Stir into creamed mixture. Stir in chocolate and nuts. Drop from spoon 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
