PFEFFERNUESSE 
1 c. ground walnut meats
1/2 lb. peanuts, shelled, ground
2 c. dark syrup (Karo)
1 c. shortening (I use butter sticks)
2 c. sugar
1/4 c. fruit cake mix, ground fine
2 tbsp. lemon juice
1 c. water
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. pepper, cloves, cinnamon, ground ginger, allspice, salt
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
8 1/2 - 9 c. flour

Melt shortening and syrup together; let stand to cool. Add other ingredients. I add flour and water last, little by little. Makes very stiff dough. Let stand in refrigerator overnight. Take small amount. Roll into small pieces, marble size or slightly larger. Place on greased cookie sheet, 1" apart. Bake 350 degrees for 10 minutes. (Keep rest of dough in refrigerator until used.)
