DATE FILLED COOKIES 
1 c. soft shortening
2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1/2 c. water
1 tsp. vanilla
3 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1/8 tsp. cinnamon

DATE FILLING:

2 c. dates
3/4 c. sugar
3/4 c. water
1/2 c. chopped nuts

FILLING: Combine and cook until thick. Let cool.

On cookie sheet, put small amount of batter, then filling (about 1 teaspoon), then more batter. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
