WAVERLY CHOPPED APPLE CAKE 
2 c. sugar (1 brown)
2/3 c. shortening
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. cold coffee
2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. raisins
2 eggs
2 c. fine chopped Waverly apples
3 c. flour
1 c. walnuts

Sift together flour, soda, salt and spices. Blend sugar and shortening, add eggs and beat well. Then add dry ingredients alternately with coffee. Last fold in Waverly apples, raisins and nuts. Bake in tube pan for about an hour in slow oven. Cake may be iced when cool.
