APPLE MYSTERY CAKE 
2-3 c. apples
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 c. sugar
3 tbsp. butter
1 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 c. milk
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. milk

TOPPING:

1/2 c. sugar
1 tbsp. cornstarch
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. boiling water

Note: May add 1/2 cup raisins and 1/2 cup chopped walnuts to batter.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Place sliced apples in bottom of greased 8 inch deep dish. Sprinkle with cinnamon.

Cream butter and sugar. Add flour, baking powder and salt alternately with milk. Spread over sliced apples.

In separate bowl combine sugar, cornstarch, salt and cinnamon. Sprinkle over batter. Pour boiling water over all. Bake 400 degrees for 45-50 minutes. Serve warm or cold with or without sweetened cream or ice cream.
