CHOCOLATE SPICE CAKE OR MYSTERY CEMENT | |
3/4 c. shortening (Crisco) 1 1/2 c. granulated sugar 3 eggs 1 3/4 c. flour 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 3/4 tsp. nutmeg 1 tsp. cinnamon 2 tbsp. cocoa 1 c. sour milk (add 1 tbsp. vinegar to make it sour) 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1 tsp. lemon extract FROSTING: 6 tbsp. softened butter 3 c. confectioners' sugar 1 1/2 tbsp. cocoa 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tbsp. hot coffee (more, if needed) 1 egg yolk Grease 2 (9") round cake pans. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix well the shortening, sugar and eggs. Add to this alternately flour mix and sour milk. Combine well but don't over beat. Add flavorings. Turn into 2 (9") cake pans. Bake 40 minutes. Cool on racks. FROSTING: Combine ingredients and spread. |
