ICE CREAM SANDWICHES 
1 egg
1/2 c. shortening
1/4 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 box chocolate cake mix
1/2 gallon ice cream

Beat first 4 ingredients with 1/2 box of cake mix. Stir in rest of mix. Divide into four equal parts. Roll each ball into 10 x 6 inches. cut into 3 x 2 1/2 inch rectangles. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 6-8 minutes center - will be slightly raised. Prick lightly with fork. Cool. Remove from pan. Cut ice cream 3/4 inch thick. Place between cookies. Wrap in Saran Wrap. Freeze.
