APPLE TORTE 
1 1/2 c. flour
6 tbsp. shortening
5 tbsp. milk
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 egg
1/2 tsp. salt
8 medium to large cooking type apples
3 oz. (small) pkg. cherry gelatin
1 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/4 pound butter

Place 1 1/2 cup flour, shortening, milk, baking powder, egg and salt in small bowl of electric mixer and beat thoroughly. Spread mixture in a greased and floured 9 x 13 inch cake pan. Peel and core apples and slice over mixture in pan. Sprinkle gelatin over apples in pan. Place 1 1/2 cups flour, sugar and butter in large bowl. Cut butter into flour and sugar with pastry blender until mixture is the consistency of corn meal. Sprinkle this mixture over ingredients in pan. Bake 45 to 55 minutes at 375 degrees.
