EASY PICKLES 
1 gallon sliced cucumbers
1 tbsp. salt
4 tsp. alum
4 tsp. spices (pickling)
Vinegar
Sugar (6-8 c.)

Put in gallon jars and cover with vinegar and let stand for 6 weeks. Drain and put 8 cups of sugar and 4 teaspoons pickling spices. Let stand until sugar melts, then pickles will be ready to eat. Leave. Do not refrigerate.

Note: 6 cups of sugar will make them sweet. 8 cups (optional).
