EASY PICKLES 
2 c. vinegar
2 tbsp. salt
1 1/2 tbsp. mixed pickling spices
1 tsp. powdered alum

Pack clean unsplit cucumbers in 1/2 gallon jars. Mix vinegar, salt, pickling spices and alum and pour over cucumbers. Finish filling jar with cold water. Seal and shake well. Let stand in a cave 3 or 4 weeks at least. Open as needed. Drain, wash, split and lay in a bowl and cover with 2 cups sugar and 3 tbsp. water. Let set a while and stir. Keep in refrigerator. Stir occasionally. Ready to use after 3 days.
