HAM AND POTATO CHOWDER 
1 lg. onion (chopped)
3 tbsp. butter
1/2 c. water
4 med. potatoes, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
2 tbsp. flour blended with 1/2 c. milk
2 1/2 c. milk
1/2 lb. smoked ham, cubed (1 1/2 c.)
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. thyme
1/4 tsp. pepper

In a large saucepan, saute the onions in butter until almost tender. Stir in the water and potatoes. Cover and cook 10-15 minutes or until potatoes are almost tender. Stir in the blended flour until well combined. Gradually stir in milk, ham, salt, thyme, and pepper. Cover and cook 5-10 minutes longer. Serves 4-6 people.

This was a very simple recipe that came out very good. I did add a bit of cornstarch at the end to thicken it up but I also didn't follow the amount of ingredients as I made much more. Good base for starting. I've never made chowder before.
