HOLIDAY BANANA BREAD 
1 egg
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
3 ripe bananas, mashed
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. chopped dates
1/2 c. chopped maraschino cherries (red and green)
1/2 c. chopped nuts

In large bowl, beat egg, sugar, shortening, bananas and vanilla until smooth. Sift flour and soda together and blend into banana mixture. Stir in remaining ingredients.

Pour batter into greased and floured 9x5x3 inch pan or two 7 3/8 x 3 5/8 x 2 1/4 inch pans or one fluted tube pan (4-cup capacity) plus one small loaf pan. Bake in moderate oven (350 F.) 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until done. Time varies slightly with size and shape of pans.
