NEW ENGLAND BOILED DINNER 
2 1/2 - 3 lb. picnic ham
3-4 garlic cloves
4-5 bay leaves
Approx. 12 peppercorns
4-5 sm. onions (halved)
Potatoes
Cabbage
Carrots
Kielbasa (ring)

Place ham in large Dutch oven. Cover with hot tap water. Add spices, simmer 1 1/2 hours. Drain some water to add remaining ingredients. Simmer another 1 hour.

If you don't have ham the Kielbasa is just fine as a replacement, along with a few more spices. Mrs, Dash is great to add.

Don't forget to drop dumplings on top of it just before serving. Use bisquick or jiffy mix recipe for drop dumplings. And don't listen to mom... always add the kielbasa.

This was real good, but I would never use hot tap water. I used cold tap water brought to a boil in a tea kettle. The water from a hot water heater is not as good because of the sediment in the tanks.

I always use vegetable stock instead of tap water...... gives more flavor. Plus I add some ALL SPICE too. YUMMY
