BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
4 qt. med. cucumbers, sliced
6 med. white onions, sliced
2 green peppers, chopped
3 garlic cloves
1/3 c. salt, coarse-medium
5 c. sugar
3 c. cold vinegar
1 1/2 tsp. celery seed
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
2 tbsp. mustard seed

Do not pare cucumbers, slice thin. Add onions, peppers, whole garlic cloves and salt. Cover with cracked ice. Mix thoroughly. Let stand 3 hours. Drain well; remove garlic. Combine remaining ingredients. Pour over cucumber mixture. Heat just to a boil. Seal in hot sterile jars.
