HOMEMADE MEAT SAUCE 
1 lg. onion, chopped (1 cup)
2 cloves garlic, minced
1/4 c. vegetable oil
1 lb. ground beef
2 Italian sausages, chopped
2 cans (2 lbs. 3 oz. each) sliced tomatoes
2 cans (6 oz. each) tomato paste
2 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. leaf oregano, crumbled
1 tbsp. leaf basil, crumbled
1 tbsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1/4 c. grated Parmesan cheese (1 oz.)

Saute onion and garlic in oil until soft in a large skillet; brown beef and sausage. Pour off all but 2 tablespoon fat in skillet. Stir in tomatoes, tomato paste, sugar, oregano, basil, salt and pepper. Simmer uncovered, stirring frequently, 45 minutes, or until sauce thickens. Stir in cheese, cool. Freeze in plastic containers.
