IRENE'S APPLE BARS 
2 1/2 c. flour (sifted)
1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 c. lard
2 egg yolks
Milk
1 1/2 c. corn flakes, crumbled
8-10 pared apples, sliced thin
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/4 tsp. cinnamon
2 egg whites

Sift together flour, sugar and salt. Cut in lard. Put egg yolks in measuring cup and add enough milk to make 2/3 cup liquid. Combine liquid and dry ingredients. Roll out 1/2 of dough to fit 12 x 15 inch cookie sheet. Sprinkle corn flakes over crust. Add sliced apples.

Mix cinnamon and sugar. Sprinkle over apples. Roll out other half of dough. Place on top of apples. Pinch edges together. Beat egg whites until just frothy. Spread over crust. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. While warm dribble with powdered sugar glaze. Makes 16-20 large bars.
