GINGERSNAPS 
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses
2 1/4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. salt

Mix shortening, brown sugar, egg and molasses. Blend in remaining ingredients. Cover and chill 1 hour. Heat oven to 375 degrees. Roll into walnut size ball. Dip tops in sugar. Place balls sugar side up on cookie sheet. Bake 10 to 12 minutes.
