ONE-LAYER CHOCOLATE CAKE 
2 c. sugar
2 c. flour
1 stick butter
1/2 c. shortening
4 tbsp. cocoa
1 c. water
1/2 c. buttermilk
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Sift flour, sugar and cinnamon together in mixing bowl. Mix butter, shortening, cocoa and water in saucepan. Bring to a boil and pour over sugar and flour mixture. Add buttermilk, eggs, soda and vanilla, stir until well blended. Pour into greased and floured 16 x 11 inch (jelly roll) pan. Bake 20 to 25 minutes at 350 degrees. It is done when barely pulled away from sides of pan. Ice while hot.

ICING:

1 stick butter
4 tbsp. cocoa
1 sm. can evaporated milk
1 lb. powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped nuts

Mix butter, cocoa and milk in the same saucepan as before and bring to a boil, then add sugar and beat until smooth. Stir in vanilla and nuts. Pour over cake while hot.
