APPLE PINWHEELS | |
7 c. sliced cooking apples (Staymans, Winesaps, Granny Smith, etc.) 1 1/2 c. sugar 1 1/4 c. water 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 3/4 stick butter (softened) 1/2 c. brown sugar 3/4 c. chopped pecans 2 c. self-rising flour 1 tbsp. sugar 1/2 c. shortening 3/4 c. buttermilk Mix first 4 ingredients. Cook until apples are tender. Put into 9x13 pan or baking dish and set aside. Mix next 3 ingredients (oleo, brown sugar, pecans). Set aside. Mix remaining ingredients (flour, sugar, shortening, buttermilk) into dough. Roll out and spread with butter, sugar and nut mixture. Roll up like a jelly roll, slice thin and put on top of apple mixture. Bake 25 to 30 minutes in 400 degree oven. |
