NOEL COOKIE GEM 
1/2 c. shortening
3/4 c. white sugar
1 egg
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. sour cream
1 1/4 c. chopped nuts

Combine sugar, shortening, egg and vanilla. Blend well. Add dry ingredients and sour cream alternately until done.

Shape into 1 1/4 inch balls. Roll in the nuts. Place 1 inch apart on greased baking sheet. Press thumb in center of cookie. Fill with jam or jelly of your choice. Bake 10-12 minutes until lightly brown.
