DOUGHNUTS 
1 cake or pkg. yeast
1/4 c. warm water
3/4 c. lukewarm milk
1/4 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt (if plain flour)
1 egg
1/4 c. soft shortening
3 1/2 - 3 3/4 c. flour

Mix yeast in cup of warm water. Then add rest of ingredients. Let rise 2 hours. Roll out and cut with cutter. Fry in hot oil. Drain on paper towel. Make icing of confectioners' sugar and milk. Coat doughnuts with icing.
