APPLE DUMPLINGS 
6 cooking apples (Rambo or McIntosh)
1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tbsp. butter
Pastry for 1 (9") double crust pie

SYRUP:

2 c. water
3 tbsp. butter
1 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. cinnamon

Peel and core apples, but leave them whole. Roll pastry into 1/8" thickness and cut into 6 squares, each 7"x7". Place apple in center of each square and fill each cavity with a mixture of cinnamon and sugar (2 to 3 teaspoons in each apple). Dot each apple with butter.

Bring together opposite ends of pastry squares together at top of apple. Place dumplings in baking dish.

Combine syrup ingredients and boil together for 3 minutes. Pour hot syrup around dumplings and bake at 425 degrees for 40 to 45 minutes.
