BROWN SUGAR CAKE 
1 c. shortening
1 box brown sugar
1 c. Carnation evaporated milk
2 tsp. maple flavoring
3 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 stick butter
5 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. chopped black walnuts (optional)

Mix above ingredients. Cream butter, sugar and shortening. Add eggs, one at a time. Add milk and flavoring and beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients. Stir in nuts. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours.

ICING:

Melt 1 stick of butter over medium heat. Add 1 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup Carnation milk. Stir until comes to boil. Take off heat and add 1 teaspoon vanilla and 3 cups powdered sugar.
