CHOCOLATE CHIP BLONDE BROWNIES 
1 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/8 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1/3 c. butter
1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1 tbsp. hot water
1 slightly beaten egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 pkg. chocolate chips (6 oz.)

Measure sifted flour; add baking powder, baking soda, and salt and sift again. Add chopped nuts, mix well and set aside. Melt butter in saucepan and remove from heat. Add brown sugar and mix well. Add hot water, if vegetable shortening is used instead of butter. Cool slightly. Add beaten egg and vanilla; blend. Add flour mixture, small amount at a time, mixing well after each addition. Spread in greased 8 x 8 x 2 inch pan and sprinkle with 1/2 package chips. Bake at 325 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Do not over cook. This makes 2 dozen bars. Can be doubled easily.
