AUNT KAY'S OATMEAL BREAD | |
1 c. quick oats 1/2 c. whole wheat flour 1/2 c. brown sugar, packed 1 tbsp. salt 2 tbsp. butter 2 c. boiling water 1 pkg. dry yeast 1/2 c. warm water (110 to 115 degrees) 5 c. white flour Combine first 5 ingredients in a large bowl. Pour the boiling water over and stir to combine. Dissolve the yeast in 1/2 cup warm water. When batter is cooled to lukewarm add yeast. Stir in 5 cup white flour. Knead 5-10 minutes. Place in greased bowl and let rise until double in bulk. Punch down and shape into 2 loaves. Place dough in well greased loaf pans. Let rise until double. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes. |
