ITALIAN SAUSAGE HERO SANDWICH (FOOTBALL FRIENDLY) | |
Serves 3 NFL fans or 5 normal people. Great for watching football! 1 pkg. "New-York Style" brand mild Italian sausages (5 count; 4 to 5-inches long)* 1 cleaned green bell pepper, sliced in 1/2-inch strips 1 jar Paul Newman's Sockarooni spaghetti sauce 1 pkg. French rolls (6 count; I like the sweet rolls) Note: Brats are good in a pinch, too! In a 4-quart pan add 3-inches of water, add whole sausages, cover and bring to a boil then add green pepper strips. Cook until sausages are done about 6-8 minutes. Drain off all but 1/3 cup of water. Save 1/3 cup water in measuring cup. Take sausages out of the pan cut in half lengthwise. put sausages back in pan with peppers. Pour in jar of spaghetti sauce. Pour 1/3 cup sausage/pepper water in spaghetti jar to swish out remaining sauce. No need to waste all that good flavor. Cover pan and bring to a boil then reduce to a simmer until green pepper is soft. Split French rolls open toast if you like, spoon on 2 sausage halves, peppers and lots of sauce. Eat with a fork and a bib and paper on the floor. Its a bit messy but good! Cooking time: 8 to 12 minutes during commercials. Submitted by: Mongo |
