1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. flour, sifted
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

Mix well. Beat after each addition. Roll 1 3/4 inch diameter. Wrap in wax paper. Chill. Slice 1/2 inch thick. Bake at 375 degrees for 7 to 10 minutes. Makes 6 dozen.
