1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter, softened
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda

Mix sugar, butter, vanilla, and egg. Mix in remaining ingredients. Shape dough into roll 6 inches in diameter and about 2 inches long. Wrap; put your name on the roll and place on supply table. I will refrigerate the dough.

NEXT DAY: Heat oven to 400 degrees. Cut rolls into 1/4 inch slices. Place about 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake until set, 8-10 minutes. Immediately remove from cookie sheet. Cool.

ICING:

1/2 c. powdered sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 tsp. milk
1 red drop food coloring
2 yellow drops food coloring

Mix all ingredients until smooth. Ice cookies and decorate while icing is wet. Each student ice and decorate their own cookie.
