APPLE NUT BREAD 
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1/3 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 c. raisins (nuts may be substituted for raisins - 1/2 c.)
1 tbsp. grated orange rind
Juice of 1 orange
1 c. chopped raw apples

Sift flour; add salt, soda, and baking powder. Sift together and set aside. Cream shortening and sugars together; add egg and beat thoroughly. Add flour mixture and orange juice to egg mixture; blend well. Add raisins, nuts, apples, and orange rind. Pour batter into a greased and floured 9 x 5 x 3 inch loaf pan. Bake at 400 degrees for 45 minutes or until done.
