RAISIN MOLASSES GEMS 
3/4 c. shortening (not butter)
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. salt
1 c. raisins
1 tsp. cinnamon
White sugar

Beat shortening and 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Add molasses and egg. Beat well. Combine flour, soda, cinnamon, cloves, ginger and salt. Add to molasses mixture. Stir in raisins. Refrigerate about 1 hour. Shape into 1" balls and roll in sugar. Place 2" apart on cookie sheet. Bake in upper 1/3 of oven at 350 degrees for 10 to 12 minutes.
