2 c. applesauce (canned preferred)
2 rounded c. sugar
3/4 c. shortening (12 tbsp.)
2 rounded tsp. cinnamon
2 rounded tsp. cloves
2 rounded tsp. baking soda
2 rounded c. all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. raisins (plus candied fruit if desired)
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Add all ingredients in succession in large bowl by hand. Do not use electric mixer. Mix well. Bake in greased pan, 9 x 13 or 9 x 9, at 350 degrees for one hour.
