SOFT GINGER COOKIES 
1 c. molasses
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. shortening (butter)
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves (ground)
1 tsp. ginger (ground)
5-6 c. flour (or a little more)

Mix everything (or mix butter and sugar; mix dry, put in baking soda, then wet ingredients; mix all together). Make three piles; form into logs. Wrap in wax paper. Freeze in a bag for 24 hours. While frozen, cut into 1/4-inch slabs. Lay out on a cookie sheet - doesn't spread much. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes. Makes about 80 cookies.
