1/2 c. shortening (butter)
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/8 tsp. salt

Heat oven to 400 degrees. Mix shortening, sugar and egg thoroughly. Sift together flour, cream of tartar, soda and salt and stir into above mixture. Form dough into balls about the size of walnuts. Roll in mixture of sugar and cinnamon. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8 to 10 minutes.

1 tsp. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
