ESTHER'S APPLESAUCE CAKE 
1 to 1 1/2 boxes Zwieback cookies
1 lg. jar applesauce
Butter
Sugar
Cherries
Cool Whip (or whipped cream)

Grate Zwieback. Melt enough butter to moisten Zwieback and add enough sugar to sweeten to taste. Spread half of this mixture on a large plate, firmly pressing, about 1/4 inch thick. Spread applesauce, about 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick. Cover the sides and top with remaining zwieback mixture. Place in the refrigerator until firm. Cover with Cool Whip (or whipped cream) and decorate with cherries.
