SCRATCH CAKE 
2 c. self-rising flour, sifted
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

With an electric mixer, cream together butter and sugar. Add eggs. Alternate flour and milk, ending with flour. If too thick, add more milk. Add vanilla.

Pour into a well-greased and floured 9x13-inch baking pan or glass dish.

Bake at 350°F until top is slightly brown and toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool on wire rack.

Top with your favorite homemade icing.

This cake can be made into a chocolate cake by adding 4-6 tbsp. cocoa in with flour before mixing.
