GRANMA'S SPLIT PEA SOUP 
1 lb. bag green split peas
3 qt. water
3 polish sausages, slice 1/2 inch thick
1 lg. carrot, grated or cubed
1/2 c. barley
1 tbsp. salt
1 tsp. pepper

Use 4 quart cooking pot. Add split peas and water, cooking over medium heat. Skim off foamy residue for 5 minutes.

Add sausages, cook for 1 1/2 hours, lastly add carrots, cook for another 1/2 hour with added 1/2 cup barley. Add salt and pepper.
