SUGAR PLUM CAKE 
4 c. flour, sifted and measured
8 oz. dates, chopped
1 lb. orange candy slices, chopped
1 1/2 c. shredded coconut
1 c. chopped pecans or walnuts
1 c. butter
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1 tsp. orange flavoring
2 c. powdered sugar
1 c. orange juice
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 tbsp. lemon juice
2 tbsp. orange rind

Using 1 cup of the flour, dredge the dates, candy, coconut, and nuts. In a large mixing bowl, cream the butter. Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Mix the remaining 2 cups flour with the salt and soda. Add alternately with the buttermilk. Beat in lemon juice and flavoring. Then by hand, stir in flour-dredged mixture. Batter will be stiff.
