BAKING POWDER BISCUITS
2 c. sifted flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. sugar
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg
2/3 c. milk

Sift dry ingredients, adding shortening and blend until the consistency of cornmeal. Add milk and egg. Roll out to 1/2 inch thick. Cut and bake 10-12 minutes at 350 degrees.

NOTE: This was my mother, Bessie Christianson's favorite. I remember eating these biscuits a lot with her homemade beef soup that had sat on the back of the old cook stove and cooked most of the day.
