SWEET CHUNK PICKLES 
DAY 1:

4 qt. cucumbers
3/4 c. pickling salt
Boiling water to cover pickles

DAY 2:

3 qt. water
1 pt. vinegar
1 tbsp. alum
1 tsp. turmeric
Dill

SYRUP:

1 pt. vinegar
1 pt. water
4 c. sugar

DAY 1: Cucumbers cut in chunks. Cover with boiling water and salt. Let stand overnight.

DAY 2: Drain and rinse well. Simmer 15 minutes in the 3 quarts water, 1 pint vinegar, alum and turmeric. DON'T BOIL. Drain. Place dill in jar. Add pickles. Cover with syrup of vinegar, water, 4 cups sugar boiled together. Pour over pickles and seal.
