SCOTCH BARS 
1 c. shortening
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1 c. flour
1 c. quick oats
1 pkg. chocolate chips
1 c. finely chopped nuts

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Cream together sugars and shortening; add egg and vanilla. Beat until fluffy. Add flour and oats; beat until mixed. Bake 20-25 minutes in small ungreased cookie sheet. Remove from oven and pour chocolate chips on top. Let stand until spreadable (about 5 minutes). Spread over top and sprinkle with finely chopped nuts.
