CINNAMON BUNS | |
1 cube yeast 1/4 c. warm water 1/4 c. shortening or butter 1/4 c. sugar 1/2 c. scalded milk 1/2 c. cold water 1 tsp. salt 1 egg, slightly beaten 3 1/2 - 4 c. flour Dissolve yeast in water and let stand 5 minutes. Combine shortening, sugar, milk, water and salt. Blend in egg. Add yeast mix gradually. Add flour until batter is smooth and soft, but not sticky. Knead well. Grease generously. Cover and let rise in warm place 60 minutes or until doubled in bulk. Divide dough in half, roll out into rectangle, spread with melted butter, brown sugar and cinnamon. Roll up as for jelly roll. Slice 1/2 inch thick, place on topping in pan. Let rise 40-60 minutes. Bake at 375 degrees for 15-20 minutes. Invert on foil. CINNAMON BUN TOPPING: 1 1/2 c. brown sugar 1/4 lb. butter 4 tbsp. water Cook until dissolved. Pour into two 9x13 pans. Top with prepared cinnamon bun dough. |
