SAUCEPAN TAFFY BARS 
1/2 c. shortening
1/3 c. light molasses
3/4 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 1/4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/3 c. chopped walnuts

Heat shortening and molasses to boiling. Remove from heat and stir in sugar. In mixer bowl, beat egg; add molasses mixture. Beat until light and fluffy. Sift together flour, salt, and baking soda; stir in molasses mixture. Stir in nuts. Spread in greased 9x9 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees until done, 20-25 minutes. Frost with Lemon Butter Icing.

LEMON BUTTER ICING:

1/8 tsp. grated lemon rind
1 1/2 tbsp. butter
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 c. powdered sugar
2 tbsp. milk or more as needed

Mix together the above and spread over bars. 36 servings.
