DAVE'S CINNAMON & SPICE COFFEE
CAKE

2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
2 c. brown sugar (1/2 lb.)
1/2 tsp. salt
2/3 c. shortening (Crisco butter flavored)
2 heaping tsp. baking powder (Clabber Girl is best)
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 heaping tsp. ground cinnamon
1/2 heaping tsp. ground nutmeg
1 c. milk
2 eggs, beaten

Mix flour, sugar, salt and shortening until crumbly; reserve 1/2 cup for topping. To remainder, add all dry ingredients and mix well. Add milk and eggs, mix well. Pour into 2 greased and floured 8 inch cake pans or 1 (9 x 14) inch pan. Top with reserved crumbs. Bake at 375 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. Serve warm. To reheat individual slices put in microwave 10 seconds.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.

Exquisite the first time (served with another guest's impromptu contribution: a tiramasu - they went SPLENDIDLY together). Now I'm going to it make again! Hope it'll be as perfect as the first time!!!! got to mention in my review above that I added some powdered ginger by inspiration and substituted crisco for butter by necessity!! excruciatingly yummy....! Mercy Buckets Dave, for this recipe O so délicieuse!!!
